Chiến drum is played with wooden stick. The instrument is the important one in orchestra of Tuồng opera. It is used to announce a phrase to be finished, to give introductory phrase, to make prodding and urgent rhythm, to go the front, and to create rhythm of classical opera art. The instrumentalist can produce different sounds by beating on different points of the drum surface.

ta đánh trống bằng dùi gỗ găng. Trống Chiến là trụ cột trong
dàn nhạc Sân khấu Tuồng, đánh chấm câu, mở câu, thôi thúc
nhịp điệu, xuất trận, tạo nên tiết tấu múa Hát Tuồng. Nghệ
nhân có thể đánh ra nhiều âm khác nhau trên nhiều điểm ở trống:
Tùng: made by beating on the middle of drum’s surface . Example: (382-01).
Rụp: made by two wooden sticks beating on the drum’s surface. Example: (383-03)
Cắc: made by beating on the wooden frame of the drum. Example: (384-04).
Tang: made by beating on the edge of the drum’s surface. Example: (385-06).
Tùng:
là đánh vào mặt giữa trống,
Rụp: là đánh hai dùi ở mặt trống;
Cắc: là đánh vào tang gỗ.
Tang: là đánh vào rìa mặt trống.
